MetaMap is an interactive 3D web map that visualizes the map data of Living Atlas (as of 7/1/2016), which provides curated content from ArcGIS Online. The purpose of this interactive map is to help users explore and navigate the map collections in Living Atlas from a geographic point of view. By looking at the extrusion visualization, users are able to quickly get an idea of the spatial distribution of the map data and know whether desired maps are available in their area of interest. The popup shows existing maps concerning the area and presents their respective snapshots. The synchronized map view provides the actual extents of the maps covering the area, which helps users narrow down their choices.
The types of data in Living Atlas include: Maps, Scences, Apps, Layers and Tools. The themes include: Imagery, Basemaps, Historical Maps, Demographics & Lifestyle, Landscape, Oceans, Earth Observations, Urban Systems, Transportation, Boundaries & Places and Story Maps.
